Get More of the RIGHT Things Done!

Each Failure Provides a New Opportunity to Start Again

Can you imagine what your life would be like if every time you failed, you were just DONE, with no opportunity to ever try again?  Think about the first time that you tried to ride a bike.  You crashed, right?  What if that was your one and only chance?  If that were the case, as a kid, you would have spent a lot more time on your feet than you did on your seat!

Fortunately for all of us, there is no such rule that says that we have to stop trying if we don’t get it right on the first try.  We’ve all heard the saying; “If at first you don’t succeed, try and try again.”  It’s very cliché, but it’s also very true.

One of the reasons that I’m choosing this topic for a blog post is because of a recent conversation I had with one of our Productive Balance members.  I was chatting with this member, “Stephen” about his overall productivity improvement after using Productive Balance for a couple of months.  Stephen had been frustrated because he was noticing a pattern of taking the time to create a PB Session, but then not following through on completing his Tasks.  Ultimately, these low productivity scores and incomplete Sessions lead to feelings of failure, which led to quitting altogether.  Take it from me, that’s a very discouraging and frustrating feeling.  I can attest to that first-hand.  I’ve been there more times than I even possibly remember.  Yes, it sucks!  Lucky for me, and for Stephen, and for ALL of you, failure is only temporary result, while persistence can be a permanent behavior!

So, let’s talk about how failure and persistence turned Stephen’s frustrations into his progress.  The first step, as always, is commitment.  Once we fully commit to something, permanent failure is no longer an option.  So, in this case, I challenged Stephen – “Did you REALLY commit to using the Productive Balance system as your method for becoming more productive, or did you treat it as just another quick fix?”  Listen to me!  If you want to make a meaningful change in your life, COMMIT to it!

Secondly, I advised Stephen to use the Productive Balance Sponsor feature, and to use it wisely.  The PB Sponsor feature provides you with accountability.  It allows you to choose an accountability partner to help reach your goals.  But, the key here is that you can’t just choose anybody, you have to choose somebody who is invested in your success.  Somebody who wants you to achieve your goals almost as badly as you do.  In Stephen’s case, he didn’t choose anybody at all.  We all need accountability and support.  We need somebody who can encourage us, support us, push us, and cheer for us when we win.  Trust me again – having the right accountability partner can make all the difference in the world.  I challenged Stephen to setup a new Session and this time, to choose me as his Sponsor.  He took me up on that offer, and with just a few words of encouragement and a follow-up here and there, Stephen slammed his PB Session!  (Way to go man!)  If you’re having a hard time staying on track, find a good Sponsor.  If you can’t, let me know and I’ll personally help you out.  (Email me anytime at Brian@ProductiveBalance.com).

And finally…  I told Stephen that the next time that he doesn’t complete his PB Session and falls short of reaching his goals to realize, it’s not over!  It just means that he gets another chance to try again, and again, and again.

We all fail.  We all fall short sometimes.  We all quit once in a while.  But, we don’t all keep trying again and again.  As a coach, I work with so many people who have unrealized dreams, either because they tried and failed, or even worse, because they never tried in the first place.  Don’t let that be your story longer.  You are better than that, and you know it!

Go For It!!!
